My very first entry: I'm nervous
January 1, 1996

Since it's the first day of the New Year, I've decided to be exciting and original and start keeping a journal. Right now, it's eight o'clock in the evening and I'm sitting in my dormitory in Hufflepuff Hall, typing away on the computer my Dad got me when last year. The draperies around my bed are thankfully closed, since I'm technically not supposed to be having a computer. (On the first day of fifth year, I managed to sneak it in at the bottom of my trunk without anyone noticing. I'm sure that if anyone found out, I'd be in deep shit.)

Winter holiday was loads of fun. I went home to London and spent the two weeks with Mom, Dad, Rhiannon, and Rhys. Rhys, if you read this, I didn't appreciate you hiding my sketchbook on the roof. You are a wretched little nuisance. :) Rhiannon was home from Uni and she and I were finally able to hang out. In fact, we had a good long talk about something I know very little about but am rather interested in: boys. Rhiannon of course has had several boyfriends, being the social butterfly she is, and gave me some valuable advice.

1) When trying to find a boyfriend, go for the ones with whom you have something in common, be it a hobby, quirk, etc.

2) Avoid boys who already have a love interest, even if she's not technically their girlfriend. You'll only end up depressed and rejected.

There are more, but I'm too lazy to type it all out.

Here are the classes I'm taking this term:

Potions. (I love the material but HATE Snape.)

Care of Magical Creatures. (I really don't like this class; the animals Professor Hagrid chooses are nothing short of lethal!)

Transfiguration. (This class is hard and Professor McGonagall frightens me.)

Charms. (Love it--Professor Flitwick is so sweet!)

Astronomy. (This class is so much fun. Professor Sinistra is so intelligent and pretty!)

And, my elective: Ancient Runes. (I've been in this class since 3rd year and have always loved it. Don't get me wrong, it's extremely complicated stuff, but I think I thrive on the challenge of it.)

Anyway, I'm excited for this year to start. I don't have any silly ideas of making new friends or *snort* finding a boyfriend, but I'm still excited. I'm planning to start a painting of this mermaid I saw during a CoMC lesson, who apparently is called Griselda the Green. If she permits me, I'll definitely sketch her and then put it into a painting.

I'm off to bed now; Potions early tomorrow morning. *sigh*

Wow, this is a late comment. (March 5, and the entry is January 1.) Hey, you can't blame me; I only signed up for this journal thing today.

"I'm planning to start a painting of this mermaid I saw during a CoMC lesson, who apparently is called Griselda the Green"

Lol, as of now your painting is nearly complete and completely kick-ass.

"1) When trying to find a boyfriend, go for the ones with whom you have something in common, be it a hobby, quirk, etc."

How cute, sisterly advice on boys! *squee!* But what do you have in common with Finch-Fletchley, anyway?

Um, everything!? His family lives near mine (he's in Hertfordshire, we're in London), we both have curly hair, we're both in Hufflepuff, and... lots of other things. Not to mention, we're both Muggleborn. (Since that sort of thing is so important to your lot.) Justin and I...we just have this connection.

Oh, and thanks for the compliment on my painting. :)

Hertfordshire is nowhere near London!! Sheesh, woman, I know you're from Wales and only lived in London for a few years, but come on. Brush up on your UK geography.

Curly hair? Seems like someone's scrounging...

Hey, it's relatively close, okay! Not like London and Derbyshire, all the way up in the Midland Moors or whatnot. And I'm not "scrounging".
